Sultry Bohemian Make-up Tips

Bohemian Makeup Looks

The Bohemian look of the moment is heavy on feathers and fringe, fishtail braids, Native American-inspired accessories and slouchy wide-leg jeans. The question is how do you create a Bohemian mood with makeup? Follow these beauty tips . . .

Bohemian belles are all about independence—in this case, that means freedom from flat irons and sticky styling products. Styling your hair can be an afterthought. Simply wash it and let it air dry, then turn a few centimeter-wide sections of hair into accent braids around your face. Tie them with ribbons or decorate them with flowers for kicks; a headband, worn Indian-style around the forehead also looks chic. Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson and Mischa Barton often rock this Hollywood Boho look.

Embrace a distinctly boho makeup palette for evening. Think neutral colors, browns and caramels. If you crave color, a peace sign or heart (drawn with colored eyeliner and placed right under the eye or above the eyebrow) can make a going-out ensemble truly memorable, as can fluttery eyelashes applied heavily to the lower part of the eye—a nod to iconic fashion model Marisa Berenson.

In terms of liner and shadow, think doe eyes and apply makeup to the outer corners only, accenting the inner corners with white shadow. Lining the inner rim of the lower lashes with a flesh-toned pencil can also create the illusion of larger eyes.
